Andy – Chartered Physiotherapist at Mode Physiotherapy

Andy is a Specialist Chartered Physiotherapist at Mode Physiotherapy, bringing over two decades of experience across elite sport, clinical practice, and higher education. His career reflects a deep commitment to helping individuals recover from injury, optimise performance, and maintain long-term physical health—whether they’re professional athletes or everyday patients seeking relief from pain.

After qualifying as a Physiotherapist, Andy pursued advanced training with an MSc in Sports Medicine at the University of Nottingham. His academic journey didn’t stop there; he also completed postgraduate studies in coaching and mentoring, as well as clinical education. This diverse background allows him to combine clinical expertise with a strong foundation in teaching, communication, and patient empowerment.

Andy’s professional experience spans NHS services, private practice, and international roles, including senior physiotherapy positions in both Chicago and Nottingham. His most notable tenure was in professional football, where he spent 15 years at Nottingham Forest FC. Starting as Head Academy Physiotherapist and progressing to First Team Physiotherapist, Andy developed a deep understanding of the physical and psychological demands placed on elite athletes. This insight now informs his work with patients from all walks of life, helping them recover with confidence and clarity.

Clinically, Andy specialises in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, with a particular focus on lower limb injuries and post-operative recovery. His approach is rooted in evidence-based practice, combining detailed assessments with personalised rehabilitation plans. He believes in empowering patients through education and structured progression, ensuring they understand their condition and feel in control of their recovery journey.

A key area of Andy’s expertise lies in sports injury management and prevention. Drawing on his extensive experience in elite sport, he designs return-to-play programmes that are tailored to the individual’s sport, activity level, and recovery goals. These programmes are built around progressive loading, functional movement retraining, and sport-specific conditioning—ensuring a safe and effective return to performance. Andy also works proactively with clients to reduce the risk of future injuries through injury prevention strategies, including biomechanical assessments, movement screening, and targeted exercise plans.

Andy is particularly skilled at bridging the gap between rehabilitation and performance, helping patients not only recover but also improve their physical resilience. His holistic approach considers the full spectrum of recovery—from pain management and mobility to strength, conditioning, and long-term injury prevention.

Beyond the clinic, Andy is a passionate educator. He is a Fellow of Advance HE, recognising his contributions to higher education and physiotherapy training. He has played a key role in curriculum development, mentoring, and international teaching, helping to raise standards across the profession. His ability to translate complex clinical concepts into clear, actionable guidance makes him a trusted mentor and a highly respected clinician.

Andy’s philosophy centres on clarity, honesty, and clinical excellence. He takes the time to understand each patient’s goals, lifestyle, and concerns, creating a collaborative environment where recovery is both effective and empowering. Whether treating a sports injury, managing chronic joint pain, or supporting post-surgical rehabilitation, Andy’s care is always tailored, compassionate, and grounded in best practice.

Outside of work, Andy maintains an active lifestyle and a love of movement. He enjoys running, cycling, and has recently taken up pickleball, reflecting his belief that staying active is key to both physical and mental wellbeing. His personal commitment to movement and performance mirrors the values he brings to his clinical work—helping others move better, feel stronger, and live pain-free.

Andy continues to be a driving force in advancing physiotherapy practice, combining clinical excellence with a genuine passion for helping people thrive. His dedication to lifelong learning and patient-centred care makes him an invaluable part of the Mode Physiotherapy team.
